It has been two months since Annie came home with us, and everything is different, but it feels like it has always been this way. It's somehow exactly what we imagined even though we really had no idea what to expect.

While we were on our Thanksgiving trip, we spent a slow morning walking around our Alma mater where we first met and spent our first years as a couple. It was a lifetime ago, but walking those familiar grounds made time feel almost parallel, a stark reminder that we are made up of moments and feelings and things said and unsaid, past and present. We thought a lot about who we were then and how those young shadows of ourselves are still a part of us today.

And now, years later, we were back with Annie, a family of three. And even though we took a different path to get here than we had thought we would, we wouldn't change a single thing. Our reality today is better than the plans we had made for ourselves then.
